First, let me tell you about my friend Casper Duerig an old handsome friend from Basel,Switzerland. He is 73 now and a solo traveler, i must say. 2019 is his 13th time in Nepal and he had done almost every famous trekking route of Nepal except EBC ( Everest Best Camp) but it doesn’t mean that he cant do it, he tried twice and fortunately or unfortunately it became impossible due to various reasons. He had done ABC( Annapurna Base Camp), MBC (Makalu Base Camp), mustang and last year he was on Mardi Himal and on this year, the October of 2019 he was with me on a trek from Rara to Phoksundo lake. although, the route from rara to phoksundo was not so satisfying as one has to walk on the newly made road till some villages of Dolpa and it doesn’t give you the vibe of being in a trekking route and we are never going to recommend this route to any travelers. It was our first time on trekking together in a place where we had never been before and at the end we call it a success trek as it was as i planned and fun at the same time.
It must be the year 2015, when my Mom got sick and i had to stay over there in Ringmo(Village on the lap of Phoksundo lake) to run a family hotel called Sherpa Hotel. Everyone who had been to phoksundo i guess they know Sherpa hotel if not i bet they had seen us as we being the oldest hotel in that small Bon town. so, it was one day when Casper came to our hotel and i showed room for him and at the same time we had a nice conversation and he couldn’t believe that i can speak nice english. it was his first trek to Dolpa and he did lower Dolpa circuit trek at that time with his one guide friend. He must be around 70 at that time and he did Bagu La(5190m) and Numa La(5290m) which is between Dho village and phoksundo. Since then we came to contact and actually we has been planning this trek right after that year.
so, we started our trek on 13th of October and we work as it is on the sample itinerary. All went perfect as it was planned, we stayed a day in rara lake and went to jumla bazaar by jeep. the major problem of this trek was it was super hard to find jeep from rara to jumla and from jumla we hired a porter and start walking till phoksundo . it was all great and we enjoy the fullest. we stayed at home for 4 days and it was super relaxing. after all its all in memory which will never come back and i cannot live that moment again with him.
